The Challenge
The client relied on a system of ecommerce platforms to create and fulfill orders for their business. As the company expanded and added new revenue streams, the system became increasingly complex. The client began to experience the strain of having to manage several disparate systems, which led to cumbersome data entry, data silos, and a lack of timely or close to real-time updates.
Along with these issues, the client wanted to streamline their EDI file processing and order processing flow. They needed a system that would integrate their various marketplaces and transfer the data to their newly designed Warehouse Management System (WMS).
In order to empower them with real-time data and competitive business practices, we needed to create a solution that would automate EDI file processing and allow the client to fulfill orders all in one place, enhancing efficiency and reducing manual effort.
Our Solution
Here’s how we solved the client’s challenges:
Domain Driven Design
Beginning with a .NET REST API architecture, the team utilized a DDD pattern for a highly customized ecommerce solution. We worked closely with the client to ensure that this system would accommodate all of their current business needs as well as facilitate future upgrades and integrations.
Automated EDI Validation & Processing
Azure Blob Storage was used to automatically store incoming EDI files from the requested ecommerce networks. We then used Azure Logic Apps to orchestrate the EDI file processing, as it integrates seamlessly with other Azure services for further storage, validation, and publishing.
Custom Validation
The team implemented Azure Functions to enable custom validation of EDI files. This not only provided the client with the flexibility to implement customized and complex rules, but can also scale automatically based on demand. We also enabled notifications to project stakeholders for easy recognition and reprocessing of invalid files.
API Management
We applied Azure API Management to manage the backend services (Logic App, Function App, .NET API) to further handle authentication and authorization. API Management offers a secure method for reusing and deploying integration assets efficiently, which significantly lowers deployment costs and reduces time to market.
